Pre-school is the first stepping stone in a child’s growth journey. This is one of the most exciting periods of any parents’ life; however, it turns out to be equally draining and stressful too. The most important decision comes in terms of choosing the right school. For the first time your child is going to be alone at a new place without your protective embrace. This obviously makes for an emotional stressor. So it is not only a new chapter in your child’s life but also every parent’s. Below are a few tips to prepare your child for pre-school: 1. The concept of school should be introduced well before in advance to the child. Essentially, it should be embedded in their psyche so that it doesn’t become a shock for them when it happens. 2. There’s a lot of research that goes behind choosing the right school and every parent must spend thorough time in doing so. The school’s record, reviews, testimonials, location, infrastructure as well as a general word of mouth; all play a very big role. 3. The internet can only be a gateway for research but it is fairly vital for parents to visit the actual campuses before zeroing in on any one of the options. Spend enough time there, learn about their security system, and try to learn about the environment to ensure you will be making the correct choice for your child. 4. These visits in person should not be done just once. Visit in consecutive weeks and revisit for any affirmation. The schools that are empathetic in approach will not find your visits intrusive. That will also help you make the correct decision. 5. The decision needs to be taken by both mother and father together. You should brainstorm and spend as much time as you need before reaching any conclusion. Once you do, leave it open-ended for a few days. And after a while if the choice still seems the most apt then go for it. 6. As you have grown acquainted with the chosen school’s premises, it is essential for your child to become familiar with the place too. You should take your children to school premises many times. Introduce them to the principal and teachers; especially class teachers and other staff members who would be interacting with theem. Show them around and detail the advantages like the classroom atmosphere, new friends they would be making, playground, recreation activities, etc. The need for doing this is because the child’s transition to starting a school journey has to be smooth and that is only possible if they develop a certain interest. 7. After such visitations, you should try and open a dialogue with your kid. Try to know their reaction, thoughts. How they felt about the place. If they felt comfortable or not. If not, try to know the reason and help them with that. 8. The feeling of fear will arise. In your mind as well as in your child’s mind. So it is very important that one can identify this fear and work on it. Decisions should never be made hastily. 9. Grandparents, personal stories and books will play a major role in this phase. This will provide comfort for your child and they will be able to freely express and understand their thought process. It will help prepare them for a good time to come. 10. Books and stationery should be bought well in advance; introduce your child to its use and importance. Stories or poems can be read to them from the curriculum books. This will help them in adjusting to the new atmosphere. While doing all this and more, always know that it is okay to feel scared or confused. It is okay because it is a decision you are making for the most precious person in your world. So always be open to seek help. A preschool plays a significant role in children's growth. It offers children multiple chances to socialize with other kids, learn more about themselves, society and different cultures, and builds confidence.
Below are some of the reasons why preschool is considered some of the most critical years in a child's life:
1. Teachers
Preschool teachers play a vital role in building a child's character in the initial years of schooling. Children also get their first teacher and have an emotional connection with them. Teachers facilitate various activities throughout the day and provide a structure to help the child learn speaking, reading and writing skills.
2. Learning Foundation
Preschool helps the child to lay a foundation of learning. Teachers use a variety of methods to help children grow psychologically and prepare them cognitively for the different ways of learning. This can be an excellent warm-up for your children before entering a full-fledged educational journey.
3. External Environment
While toddlers stay at home since childhood, a preschool is likely their first exposure to get out of their houses to meet other children and learn. This also gives your children a sense of self-worth, competence, and an opportunity to constantly learn from other children as well.
4. Extracurricular Activities
As children tend to be more flexible and playful in their earlier ages, it is essential for them to indulge in physical activities early on to attain maximum growth. A preschool teaches your children various arts and crafts, sports and other activities that help to enhance their learning and creativity.
